Overview

Already creating music but not sure how to release it? Our brand new Introduction to the Music Industry summer school is perfect for artists, musicians and producers who are already creating their own tracks but want to build their knowledge of releasing and the business.

Over 5 days you’ll cover the essentials of releasing music from distribution and publishing, to marketing and branding, while also learning about the wider music industry ecosystem. Under the guidance of our experienced tutors you’ll apply what you learn, creating content for an electronic press kit, either for your own work or someone else’s, that you can leave with at the end of the week. 

Taught in our studios in the centre of Manchester, there’s no better place to find out more about taking an artist of music to the market.

Here is the latest example of the curriculum for Introduction to the Music Industry summer school

Your course

On day 1 you’ll be introduced to the world of relasing music and how that fits into the wider music industry. You’ll cover everything thats involved from distribution to marketing campaigns.

On day 2 you’ll cover at marketing and branding in more detail, thinking about your audiences and various communication channels. Applying you newly acquired knowledge to your own chosen project.

On the third day you’ll start putting into practice what you’ve learnt and starting pulling together and creating content for your electronic press kit.

On day four you’ll get an overview of artist management and how this fits into music business.

On the final day you’ll present or pitch what you’ve created to the group and also a special industry guest, getting feedback on your work to refine it before you take it out into the real world.

Teaching and learning

Teaching takes place in a variety of formats including lessons, and practical workshope. Our aim throughout is to develop your knowledge and understanding of the music industry and to apply what you’ve learnt.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be at least 15 years of age, have good spoken/written English and basic IT skills. If you’re aged between 15 and 18, we may need to contact you before we can confirm your place on the course.
