You will learn the basics of Ableton Live and understand how you can create effective Drums, Bass lines, Chords and Leads. By utilising the factory library and samples you will explore the tools available to Electronic Music Producers of nearly any genre.
Building upon ideas you have created, you will learn how to utilise Critical Listening skills to identify creative effects, reverse engineer drum patterns and melodies and how to alter your ideas using both MIDI and audio editing techniques.
During day three you will explore sampling technologies and legality in order to create new materials from existing compositions and sound effects. You will also understand how to utilise basic synthesis tools to create effective and unique sounds for use in your developing composition.
With your compositions well under way, you will explore basic mixing techniques and corrective effects in order to create a finished version of your composition in your chosen genre that you will be able to take away with you upon completion of the course.
On the final day of the summer school you will utilise Ableton Live in order to create a performance version of your composition, using Session View and Push to translate your studio work into a live environment which will result in a recorded version of your Live performance.
Teaching takes place in a variety of formats including informal, hands-on workshops and interactive demonstrations. Our aim throughout is to encourage your creative exploration and hone your technical skills.
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age, have good spoken/written English and basic IT skills. If you’re aged between 15 and 18, we may need to contact you before we can confirm your place on the course.
