1. Introduction
Spirit Studios’ courses fall into one of five categories – Industry, Academic, Short, Summer Schools and Online. Occasionally the T&Cs vary depending on the course type. Where this is the case, it will be clearly highlighted in this document.
2. Definitions
Spirit Studios (also referred to as ‘Spirit’): is the company Spirit SSR Limited
Student: the person entering into this agreement with Spirit Studios.
Guest: anyone entering the premises at a Student’s request, including but not limited to friends, relatives, ex-students, and people collaborating on student work.
Staff: anyone working for or on behalf of Spirit Studios.
Premises: the location where courses are delivered.
Facilities: Equipment and / or rooms belonging to Spirit Studios that are used by the students.
3. Entering a contract
For academic courses, contracts are made between the student and the validating university. However students on academic courses studying at Spirit Studios are still subject to these terms and conditions in addition to those set out by the validating university.
For industry courses students are deemed to have entered a contract with Spirit Studios as soon as an application fee has been paid. For short course the contract is entered as soon as payment for the course is made. Students have the right to terminate this contract within 14 days of entering the contract, and any application fees paid will be refunded; this is known as the ‘cooling-off’ period.
4. Application and enrolment
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that every part of the application is completed accurately and truthfully. Failing to do so may result in the enrolment being delayed or cancelled.
Applications for industry courses can be made via the Spirit Studios website, over the phone, by post or in person.
Unless otherwise stated, places can be reserved only upon receipt of the course application fee and completed electronic or paper application form.
The application fee is not refundable under any circumstances after the 14 day cooling-off period (unless the course applied for is cancelled by Spirit Studios). It is possible to transfer the application fee to another industry course as long as a request in writing is submitted by the student prior to the course commencement date.
Applications for short courses can be made via the Spirit Studios website, over the phone, by post or in person.
Unless otherwise stated, places can be reserved only on receipt of the full course fees and completed electronic or paper application form. There is no application fee for short courses.
The course fees are not refundable under any circumstances after the start date of the course or after the 14 day cooling-off period (unless the course applied for is cancelled by Spirit Studios). It is possible to transfer the course fee as credit to another short course or industry course, as long as a request in writing is received by Spirit Studios prior to the course commencement date.
Applications for online courses can be made via the Spirit Studios website, over the phone, by post or in person.

It is possible to transfer the course fee as credit to another online course, as long as a request in writing is received by Spirit Studios prior to the course commencement date.
5. Course fees
All course fees are indicated on Spirit Studios website. Course fees do not include additional field trips, or personal equipment costs.
For academic course fees, terms and conditions are set by the validating university and the student loan company (Student finance overview), and all fees are paid directly to the university. Please visit the relevant university website for details.
Unless otherwise stated, fees for industry courses can be paid in an advance single payment, or by equal monthly instalments throughout the student’s enrolment on the course. All course fees are payable in advance.
PLEASE NOTE: Late payment of an instalment will result in access to Spirit Studios facilities being withdrawn until all outstanding fees are received. If a student’s course fees are overdue by two or more weeks, the student will be suspended from the course until all outstanding fees are received. Spirit Studios has the express right to terminate the contract and the student should be aware that Spirit Studios may also exercise further rights, for example (1) to prevent enrolment onto subsequent phases of the course, or (2) to exercise its rights not to award a qualification where any fees are outstanding.
If late instalment fees are still due at the time of the student leaving a course, whether by the course ending or by termination by either party, these fees are still liable for payment.
Course fees are payable irrespective of the student’s attendance.
Students are not entitled to a refund of any fees if they withdraw from the course before completion, unless this is on medical grounds and sufficient evidence is provided. Under these circumstances a refund may be given at the discretion of Spirit Studios. Students must inform Spirit Studios in writing if they wish to withdraw from the course. Instalment payments will be payable up to the date that written notice is received.
Students are not entitled to a refund of any fees if they are withdrawn from the course by Spirit Studios for disciplinary reasons.
If Spirit Studios cancels the course prior to the start date, students will be entitled to a full refund of fees paid for the cancelled course.
All course fees are payable in advance.
Course fees are payable irrespective of the student’s attendance.
Students are not entitled to a refund of any fees if they withdraw from the course before completion, unless this is on medical grounds and sufficient evidence is provided. Under these circumstances a refund may be given at the discretion of Spirit Studios. Students must inform Spirit Studios in writing if they wish to withdraw from the course.
Students are not entitled to a refund of any fees if they are withdrawn from the course by Spirit Studios for disciplinary reasons.
If Spirit Studios cancels the course, students will be entitled to a full refund of the course fees.

Students are not entitled to a refund of any fees if they are withdrawn from the course by Spirit Studios for disciplinary reasons.
If Spirit Studios cancels the course, students will be entitled to a full refund of the course fees.
Spirit Studios will issue customers with a full refund in the event that Summer Experiences become unable to run due to existing coronavirus restrictions remaining in place, or new ones being put in place by the UK Government at the time of running.

In the event that all Summer Experiences do not run, Spirit Studios will contact all customers before issuing refunds.
6. Contact details
The student has a responsibility to keep Spirit Studios fully informed of his/her current contact details. Should a student fail to do so, Spirit Studios cannot be held responsible for any subsequent problems encountered by the student relating to incorrect data.
7. Change policy
pirit will make every effort not to change the dates and times of a course. However on occasions this may prove necessary and so we reserve the right to make changes. When this is the case, Spirit Studios will provide as much notice as possible to all students who have applied for or who are enrolled on the course.
Spirit Studios courses and facilities are constantly reviewed and updated. Whenever a significant change is planned, Spirit Studios will inform the students giving as much notice as possible.
Examples of significant changes include:
- A new form of assessment
- A new module
- Decommission / introduction of a facility such as a recording studio
If the change is considered insignificant, Spirit Studios would not normally inform the students. Examples of insignificant changes include:
- Replacement of a piece of equipment that would have no effect on the student’s training
- Updates to course materials
8. Student code of conduct
Students are expected to abide by Spirit Studios’ rules and regulations as set out in the Student Handbook that is distributed to all students studying at Spirit Studios. A copy of this handbook is distributed at induction, and is provided online, along with all other policy documents. The student must comply with any additional requirements which may be imposed by any regulatory bodies or accreditation schemes for the specific fields of study.
9. Absence from course
In the event of prolonged absence and/or continued lateness, Spirit Studios reserves the right to withdraw a student from the course. Spirit Studios also reserves the right to withdraw a student from the course should their attendance fall below 40%.
10. Access to the premises
Spirit Studios reserves the right to refuse access to the premises to unauthorised visitors or anyone found to be in serious breach of Spirit Studios’ rules and regulations.
11. Intellectual property
Spirit Studios’ IP policy can be found online, along with all other policy documents. This policy applies to anyone studying with Spirit Studios.
Students on academic courses should also take note of the validating university’s IP Policy.
12. Data protection
Spirit Studios ensures that appropriate security measures are taken against unlawful or unauthorised processing of personal data and against the accidental loss of, or damage to, personal data. The Data Protection Act 1998 requires Spirit Studios to put in place procedures and technologies to maintain the security of all personal data from the point of collection to the point of destruction. Maintaining data security means, amongst other things, guaranteeing the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the personal data. Details of this policy can be found online, along with all other policy documents.
13. Miscellaneous
Spirit Studios does not accept responsibility for the personal property and effects of the student.
Should there be any changes to Spirit Studios’ terms and conditions, Spirit Studios will inform all current and pending students. Under these circumstances, it may prove necessary for students to provide written acceptance of the new terms and conditions.
Spirit Studios may occasionally seek to make use of a student’s, likeness and name on Spirit Studios website, promotional photos and videos and printed material. When this is the case, the student will be asked to sign a release form. Due to the collaborative nature of social media, Spirit Studios cannot guarantee a student’s work, likeness and name will not appear on its social media channels.
14. Acceptance of terms and conditions
At induction, students will be required to sign a copy of these terms and conditions. By doing so, students are confirming their acceptance of Spirit Studios terms and conditions and rules and regulations. By accepting these terms and conditions you enter into an agreement with Spirit Studios.
