How to become a music artist.

15 June, 2023

Music is more than just songs and sound. Music brings people together and plays a massive role in people’s lives.

Every song can live on through memories, happy or sad. This is what you can do as a music artist. The pathway to success demands creativity, courage, and confidence, which we know you have! But now you have a dream that you want to fulfil, how do you get there?

How to become a musician

There’s no one approach to becoming a music artist. However, there are options you can choose to boost the chances of you and your music being recognised. Whether you’re wondering how to become a DJ, musician, singer or something else, maybe one day you can get signed by a record label that loves and recognises your musical talent.

Learn more about your passion

Knowledge is power, right? When you’re infatuated with music, it can lead you to want to deepen your knowledge of the industry. Whether that’s to find out how music is made/produced, learn how to get the most out of the tools you use or your instrument, or even just to better understand the business side of the industry. All of these areas can only benefit the development of your career.

At Spirit Studios, we have a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as industry and short courses that can help develop your music skills.

Decide on your style

Don’t forget to target a genre. Music fans are incredibly passionate, and the new kids on the block often get a whole lot of support from fans who like that kind of music. If you feel like your sound is truly unique, then that’s fine too. Those who love to explore new music and genres are bound to enjoy listening.

Share your music

Have you recorded a few demos? If so, put them out there for all to hear! You might begin gaining a following which is excellent for promoting your music. Release however many songs you like, but there’s no rush to produce an album. Don’t worry so much about how to become a successful artist; just have fun with your creations and make music that you love and enjoy!

Here are some places you can release and promote your music:

  • Social media channels
  • Music Streaming services (e.g. Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, SoundCloud)
  • YouTube
  • Your own website
