What were you doing before you came to Spirit Studios?
I was a visiting lecturer on the Sonic Arts MA at UDK, in Berlin.
Any special areas of interest?
Sonic ambiguity, ritual, and sound’s interdisciplinary possibilities.
I’ve been obsessed with sound and music for as long as I can remember.
What’s your proudest career achievement?
Whenever a student tells me I genuinely enabled them to change how they think.
What do you get up to outside of teaching?
I’m a director of The Birley artists studios and project space.
Tell us something people may not know about you?
I have three dads!
What are some of your career credits, are there any notable people that you’ve worked with?
Engineering Alvin Lucier’s ‘Sitting in a Room’ with the man himself springs to mind.
If you have anything released online, where can we find it? (e.g. website/ music/ portfolio)
What’s your favourite album/artist? and why?
I have about 30 answers probably, with 30 reasons why. But for now it’s pretty much anything by Protomartyr.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Godspeed You Black Emperor in a tiny basement bar in Islington in 1998. There was probably more of them than audience and we just wandered around between them as they played.
What’s your musical guilty pleasure?
Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds. I know every curs-ed word.
