What were you doing before you came to Spirit Studios?
Before joining Spirit Studios, I spent several years working as a producer, performer, researcher, lecturer, and creative practitioner.
My work has taken me across Europe into session roles, sync projects with Audio network, live performances with the BBC and 808 State, as well as collaborations with a wide range of arts organisations such as Yorkshire Sound Women’s Network.
How did you get into what you teach?
My journey into teaching began organically through performance and production. After completing my music production degree, I began performing, busking, recording, and collaborating across Manchester.
I gradually found myself working with other artists, leading workshops, and supporting creative projects, which evolved into a formal teaching career.
I’ve always loved helping people unlock their creative confidence.
Any areas of special interest?
I specialise in Ableton Live, electronic performances, live looping, and integrating audio with visual media.
I’m also passionate about women and gender minorities in music production, having hosted Women in Music Production events for many years and working closely with community groups to encourage inclusive creative spaces.
What’s your proudest career achievement?
Performing with 808 State on the BBC was a standout moment, as was giving a TEDx talk/performance. I’m also proud of developing accessible, inspiring production and performance sessions that support emerging artists in finding their sound.
What do you get up to outside of teaching?
I write and produce electronic music, perform with Ableton and live looping, and collaborate with artists on their playback system. I also compose and produce for sync, including work for Audio Network.
Tell us something people may not know about you?
I used to play cello and performed at Bridgewater Hall multiple times, and I spent two years playing double bass in a jazz band!
Career credits or any notable people you may have worked with?
I’ve collaborated with 808 State (BBC performance), Manchester Jazz festival, as well as working across sync for Audio Network.
I’ve performed throughout Europe in countries including Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, and Italy.
What’s your favourite album/artist? and why?
Some of the artists who have shaped my world include, Björk, Bonobo, and Enya! Anyone who blends emotion, storytelling, and innovative production.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
That’s almost impossible to answer but probably Jacob Collier or The Prodigy!
What’s your musical guilty pleasure?
No guilt here! If it makes you feel something, it counts.
