Francesco Varzi.

What were you doing before you came to Spirit Studios?

I’ve been working at Spirit since 2020 as a studio assistant, engineer and as a 1-2-1 tutor.

How did you get into what you teach?

I started covering some lessons and then gradually did more teaching in sound for visual media and audio post production modules.

Any areas of special interest?

Music Production, (recording, mixing, mastering) and film sound design.

What’s your proudest career achievement?

Winning an award for best sound design for an independent feature film.

What do you get up to outside of teaching?

I play bass with a couple of music projects, read, play football, watch films and watching Italian Serie C football (lol), supporting AC Perugia. – It is the closest big town from where I come from originally.

Tell us something people may not know about you?

I am from the same village of the actress Monica Bellucci.

Any notable people you may have worked with?

The Script, the recording session was done at Spirit. Maxime Peak voice over recording for a Charity Film, done at Spirit too.

When I was in Italy I did it a lot of live sound and once I worked at Eiffel 65’s live show. And also in theatre once with Teho Teardo, an Italian composer who worked with Blixa Bargeld from Einstürzende Neubauten.

What’s your favourite album/artist? and why?

I would say probably Radiohead because of their intersection between experimental, texture and pop.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

Massive Attack

What’s your musical guilty pleasure?

Pupo – Gelato al Cioccolato
