As the city of Manchester continues to expand with more exciting developments being built each year, finding the right student accommodation can be challenging. Although the wide range of student accommodation choices available in Manchester to students today is of a very high standard, that doesn’t necessarily mean your decision is made any easier.
There are many things to consider and lots of questions that require answers, and that can feel a little overwhelming. Fortunately, we’re here to provide all the insight you need to help inform your final decision.
When to start my search for student accommodation?
When you’re accepted onto one of our university courses at Spirit Studios, it’s important that you have already got accommodation sorted prior to this point. The sooner you can secure a place to live, you’ll be relieved of the stress of finding somewhere later down the line. As Manchester has a plethora of excellent student accommodation options, competition is extremely fierce, therefore rooms and places in student halls do get reserved very quickly.
If you have decided Manchester is the place for you to study, then you should consider a little research on the most attractive areas to live as a student. Below, we’ve provided a little overview of the best student areas in Manchester to live in.
The best student accommodation areas in Manchester
In preparation for your exciting new student voyage, we’re sure you’ll want to know exactly where the best places to eat, drink and socialise are. Nothing epitomises the student lifestyle more than a heavy cultural focus, and we know the main priorities generally centre around aspects such as food, nightlife and entertainment facilities. As Manchester has all these options in abundance, it’s extremely easy to find any of these offerings across the city’s many districts. FOMO as a student can be real, therefore accessing these amenities with minimal fuss is essential. Living in student accommodation that is located in the prime spots around Manchester will ensure the world is your oyster in terms of accessibility. If you’re new to the city or haven’t visited Manchester previously, then don’t worry, we’ll tell you exactly where you should be looking to live and why.
Home to some of the popular student haunts in the city, Fallowfield is one of the most popular student areas in Manchester, offering affordable living and easy access to the city centre. Located to the south of the city, it has a vibrant atmosphere buzzing with student-orientated nightlife plus plenty to see and do. You’ll find shops, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants containing all your essential amenities within close proximity.
With tram routes, regular train links, plenty of bus routes and cycle lanes for any cycling enthusiasts, transporting to and from the city isn’t an issue. There are a vast range of student accommodation options available in Fallowfield, and Spirit Studios has partnered with Mezzino Student Living, to provide you with the best options for student accommodation in Manchester.
Two of the very best student accommodation blocks are located at Mayfair Court and Chancellor Court in Fallowfield. They have a range of fully-furnished rooms ranging from 2 bed rooms, up to 5 beds, depending on your requirements. Benefit from the modernised kitchens and en-suite bathroom facilities, or relax in one of the private study spaces.
If you’re looking for affordability and authentic cuisine, then Rusholme might be the place for you. Home to the famous ‘curry mile’, Rusholme provides a vast wealth of dining experiences from across the globe, with everything from Indian to Palestinian eateries.
Although, traditionally the area is less-populated with students, there are still many desirable places in Rusholme that make great student accommodation. Transport links are frequent via train or bus, so access to and from the city centre isn’t an issue.
The district of Hulme provides a more tranquil and relaxed student vibe, for students who want a little more chill time. This area is popular with students who have experienced the frenetic hustle and bustle of other student areas, and want a different student experience. It is located to the south of the city, but has direct transport links to the main districts within the city centre.
If you’re an introverted soul, it may be worth considering Hulme as the place to live. The area has seen massive investments across the last decade, and is a diverse and creative hub, home to a collection of open green spaces and modernised architecture. With arts and culture central to the entertainment offering, Hulme would suit you down to the ground if you’re somebody of an artistic persuasion.
Although it isn’t necessarily considered a student area, Oxford Road is on the doorstep of Manchester’s best nightlife scenes. Located on the periphery of the city centre, it is a busy area with an abundance of activity for students who want to be centred in the heart of Manchester.
Music venues like The 02 Ritz and the 02 Academy are close by, and with such easy access to the main central districts, you’ll be in close proximity to all the shops, restaurants and bars you need to maximise your student experience.
As with any central location, expect prices for student halls or private accommodation rooms to be increased in comparison to the Fallowfield and Rusholme areas.
