Shane Dickinson.

Shane is a musician and producer, with knowledge spanning across studio-based music production and live sound engineering.

What were you doing before you came to Spirit Studios?

I have been playing in bands for years getting the chance to tour across the county which we organised without management or booking agents.

How did you get into what you teach?

Having been a part of various bands for so long, I really wanted to get to know how everything worked from all sides of the process, both in live sound and studio production.

Any special areas of interest?

Post Punk/ No wave music, Recording bands live trying to catch the live energy, experimenting with sound design and making Electronic Glitch Music.

I’m always keen to try anything music production related.

What’s your proudest career achievement?

We arranged a gig in Mold for one of my bands called MOLD (a joke taken too far!). We made it into the local paper and even had the Mayor of the town introduce the band.

What do you get up to outside of teaching?

I’m a keen cook and allotment maintainer, I try to incorporate this into my production some how, be it making my own ‘found sounds’ or converting biometric data from plants into MIDI, creating a plant synth.

Tell us something people may not know about you?

I made a guest appearance in the show Catastrophe. Not going to tell you which episode though.

What are some of your career credits, are there any notable people that you’ve worked with?

Nile Marr – Lonely Heart Killers (Assistant Engineer), SAS – History (Producer and Engineer), Mewn (Live) – Two Days (Engineer), MOLD – Cannibal Date Night (Producer and Engineer). Bands played in; Blanketman, MOLD and Slow Knife.

What’s your favourite album/artist? and why?

Harry Nilsson – Nilsson Schmilsson – Its sounds like a best of album as every tune truly slaps.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

Best gig would be seeing Gorillaz at Primavera. However, I am about to see DEVO this weekend, they have a great chance at taking the top spot.

What’s your musical guilty pleasure?

Black Eyed Pease – My Humps I know every word and I’m not ashamed.
