What were you doing before you came to Spirit Studios?
I’m a professional recording engineer, mixer and mastering engineer by trade. I also provide technical consultancies to a variety of recording facilities in the UK and the EU, and I have been an accredited professional HE educator since 2014.
How did you get into what you teach?
I started working for Italian PA companies in the late 80s. I then worked at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios for 12 years in the 90s.
I then went on to have my own studio at Real World for another 13 years before moving to Manchester.
I now run my own Ltd company and we provide a variety of services to the media industry.
Any areas of special interest?
Mixing and Mastering, with a keen interest in immersive audio and Dolby Atmos.
What’s your proudest career achievement?
The videogame ‘HALO 4’ soundtrack, working as a sound engineer and mixer for the production team.
What do you get up to outside of teaching?
Mixing and Mastering, Dolby Atmos and immersive sound are all very much on my radar.
Tell us something people may not know about you?
Rock climbing and hiking are my passion.

I worked and engineered records for Beautiful South, Black Grape, The Cooper Temple Clause, Crowded House, Deep Purple, Elbow, Goldfrapp, Genesis, Gomez, James, Massive Attack, Loreena McKennitt, New Order, Midge Ure, Robert Plant, Sigur Ros, Stereophonics, Van Morrison and many more.
I also engineered for many producers, including Gary Barlow, Tchad Blake, David Bottrill, Pól Brennan, Neil Davidge, Stephen Hague, Trevor Horn, Jon Kelly, John Leckie, Donal Lunny, Owen Morris, Steve Osborne, Corrado Rustici, Danny Saber, Adrian Sherwood, Ken Thomas, Midge Ure, Hector Zazou.

A great sounding room! I have gone to some extreme lengths to make sure I love the sound of what I listen to.
