How did you get into what you teach?
I got into music production and synthesis through playing in different bands and naturally gravitating towards music technology.
I did a BA in Creative Music Technology and an MA in Interactive Music and Advanced Studio Production at the University of Salford.
Any areas of special interest?
My special interest is using field recordings, contact mics and soundscape composition.
What were you doing before you came to Spirit Studios?
Freelancing and studying my MA at the University of Salford.
What do you get up to outside of teaching?
Outside of Spirit, I work as a composer, audio producer and workshop facilitator.
What’s your proudest career achievement?
My proudest career achievement was performing at SXSW in Austin!
Tell us something people may not know about you?
I used to play in a brass band as a child (wearing a green and purple tartan uniform!)
Career credits or any notable people you may have worked with?
The Orielles, WH Lung, Tom Sharkett, Maire Tracey
If you have anything released online, where can we find it?

What’s your favourite album/artist? and why?
Hard to choose one! I’m a big fan of ‘Oneohtrix Point Never’ as he draws on loads of disparate styles, from musique concrete to synth pop, and makes something that sounds cohesive and uniquely his own.
I’m also a sucker for Sade, the queen of sophisti-pop!
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Seeing Kraftwerk in the flesh at Jodrell Bank was pretty special.
What’s your musical guilty pleasure?
No such thing! But a song I love that’s a bit off-brand for me is Sunshine on Leith by The Proclaimers
(I whack it on if I want to feel close to my Scottish roots)
