Introducing you to the various aspects of streaming, and what it takes to manage your releases, this week long experience will provide you with the skills and knowledge to successfully get your music onto a platform and out into the public domain.

With support from Ditto Music, one of the country’s leading online music distributors, and PPL, you will learn how to distribute and maintain the royalties of your music.

Course Content

Day 1 - Choosing your platforms

In this opening session, you will explore the different platforms available to stream your releases, including Soundcloud, Spotify and Apple Music.

During this session, you will also learn the processes behind self-releases and the steps required to promote your music once released.

Day 2 - Promoting yourself

During day 2, you will learn how to build up your presence as a band, producer or artist within the industry and get to grips with the importance of PR.

Day 3 - Attracting your audience

On day 3, you will look into the many ways to implement your promotional campaign and attract support from within the industry.

In addition to this, you will look at attracting an even bigger audience while encouraging your current audience to come back and listen for more.

Day 4 - Publishing and Licensing

On day 4, you will investigate the different music licensing companies within the industry, including PRS, MCPS and PPL.

You will also learn about about sync licensing and the use of commercial music in films, adverts or video games.

Day 5 - Choosing a Record Label

On the final day, you will look at music publishing and explore major and independent record labels within the industry, weighing up the pros and cons of all the options.

During this session, you will also learn the skills and knowledge to approach a label and secure a record deal.
