Rick Jupp.


As a former member for the band Elbow, Rick has spent many years touring the world as a professional musician.

What were you doing before you came to Spirit Studios?

I have been a lecturer at LIPA, a session musician, and a 1-2-1 drum teacher.

I was also a founding member of Elbow for 28 years.

How did you get into what you teach?

I naturally gravitated towards it.

Any special areas of interest?

The neurology of drumming, coordination, proprioception, awareness and benefits thereof.

What’s your proudest career achievement?

Being able to make a living from making music.

What do you get up to outside of teaching?

Family and surfing.

Tell us something people may not know about you?

I’m not actually bald!

What are some of your career credits, are there any notable people that you’ve worked with?

I’ve won 1 Brit, 2 Ivor Novello’s, and a Mercury Prize.

If you have anything released online, where can we find it?

Anything from Elbow up to 2016.

What’s your favourite album/artist? and why?

Soundgarden- Superunkown. Matt Cameron/Talk Talk- Spirit of Eden- Lee Harris.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

LCD Soundsystem at the Manchester Apollo.

What’s your musical guilty pleasure?

Les Miserables.
